Man Sue's mother-in-law about Wife inheritance

A widower, Isah Sulaiman, has brought his mother-in-law over the legacy of his deceased wife to a Magajin Gari Sharia court in Kaduna.

Sulaiman told the court that his mother-in-law, Khadija Ibrahim, allegedly confiscated the inheritance of his deceased wife for his children.

The plaintiff asks the court to force the respondent to hand over the house documents of his deceased wife Aisha to her surviving three children.

However, the defendant informed the court that the problem in question had been resolved by another court in 2015 following the death of her daughter.

She claimed that her son-in-law filed a lawsuit against her three weeks after her daughter's death in which she demanded his share in the inheritance of his deceased wife.

Ibrahim added that the court shared the inheritance in accordance with the Islamic ordinance, in which the husband received his own share.

Prior to her death, Aisha had given her older brother a car she had inherited from her own father, but had not been fully paid.

"She asked her brother to pay the outstanding balance, and the matter has since been settled by the court."

She told the court that the only property under her care was a house document owned by her grandchildren and obtained from the estate.

The judge, Mallam-Musa sa'ad, ordered, after hearing both parties, that he produced a certified copy of the first judgment of the estate and adjourned the case to October 24.
