Buhari too weak to sign free trade agreement - OBJ

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari's hands are too weak to sign the African Free Trade Agreement.

The former president made the statement on Saturday while speaking at the lecture series by Babacar Ndiaye in Bali, Indonesia, reports The Cable.

Obasanjo spoke during the international lecture series presented by the Afrexim Bank in honor of Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, a former president of the African Development Bank, who passed away on 13 July 2017, on "Imbalance in global power, trade wars and implications for Africa".

The event took place on the sidelines of the 2018 Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.

Obasanjo said he hopes Nigeria will soon have a president to sign the deal.

He said, "Africa can not overcome the fears of trade warfare until it reaches 50 percent of intra-African trade.

"AfCTA is a good idea and hopefully we will have a president for Nigeria who can sign it because the one who is here now has his hands too weak to sign."
