Marty, originally from Sofia in Bulgaria, had been studying English and French literature at the University of Cardiff.

She was born a woman but had told family and friends that they knew from very young that they were men and that they were born in the wrong body.
Marty was diagnosed with gender dysphoria by a family doctor in 2017 and was referred to a specialized gender identity clinic in Cardiff.

She told family and friends about the transition plans, and started saving money for the procedures.

The tests heard in the investigation detailed how a roommate said she heard the crying and the noise of Marty's room around eleven o'clock at night.

She and another roommate went to see Marty and saw that the bedroom door was open with a wedge.
Deputy coroner Graeme Hughes said it was clear that Marty intended to take his own life.
He said: "On May 29, she had consumed an extremely high amount of caffeine with the intention of taking her own life.

"She was discovered by her roommate and taken to the hospital, but died soon after, and my conclusion is that the way Marty came to his death is one of suicide."
