Presidential Nomination: Mimiko Picks form

A former governor of the state of Ondo, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has declared his intention to challenge the presidential elections of 2019 on the platform of the Labor Party.

Mimiko made known his intention in an event in the national headquarters of the LP directed by Abdulsalam Abdulkadir, in Abuja, on Thursday.

But Nigeria's Labor Congress opposed his candidacy, saying he could not allow Mimiko to participate in the LP platform.

Mimiko, declaring his presidential ambition, said that if he were finally elected, he would restructure Nigeria and prioritize the security and empowerment of youth.

The NLC rejected Mimiko's presidential statement, declaring that it could not compete on the Labor Party platform.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, the president of the NLC, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, and the LP's national publicity secretary, Mrs. Ebere Ifendu, said it was not possible for Mimiko to update her presidential ambition under her party .

"It is not possible for Mimiko to run under the Labor Party and we want to say no, given that Mimiko does not have any business as a member of the Labor Party.

"The party was registered by the NLC and the Trade Union Congress, women's market associations and students, we registered the game and the party's certificate was with the NLC Secretary General.

"So, bringing money to buy the party or the structure will not work, we do not share the same ideology with him, it's a party with a difference, so I want to call Minimko one more time to make sure he leaves the party "said Wabba.

The NLC also repudiated the president of the LP, emphasizing that he could not continue as the leader of the party.
