Police Caught Inspector Drinking Beer while on Duty

Lagos Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal ordered the arrest on Wednesday of an inspector, Emmanuel Egba, accused of drinking on duty.

The police chief also ordered an investigation to determine the truth of the claim.
An image of Inspector Egba holding a beer bottle was captured and made public, which led the Commissioner to order his arrest.

According to spokesman Chike Oti, chief superintendent of police (CSP), the inspector said he retrieved the bottle from a driver.

Oti said: "The attention of the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, has been attracted by a publication in which a police inspector was caught behind closed doors with a beer bottle.

"The officer in question has been identified and arrested, it is Inspector Emmanuel Egba, a police motorcyclist assigned to the 'M' Command of the Area, Idimu and not the Rapid Response Squadron (RRS), as was erroneously reported.

"When the inspectors questioned the inspector, he denied the accusation, claiming that he recovered the bottle of liquid beer from a driver who was drinking in his car in traffic.

"I was afraid that the driver would get drunk, endangering his life and that of other road users."

"However, the case is being investigated in the Provost Control Section and if it is determined that his claim is false, the appropriate disciplinary action will be imposed after an Ordinary Trial in the Court."
