Banker Arrested On His Wedding Day In Lagos STATE... You Won't Believe Why

The Nation reports that a Addosser Microfinance Bank Plc marketing officer, Aliu Mustapha, who allegedly fled with a $ 1 million client, was presented Thursday in a trial court of Igbosere in Lagos.

According to the police, Mustapha, 37, of number 8, Oremeji Street, Lagos, was arrested at his wedding last Saturday in Lagos.

He was indicted on one count of theft before Magistrate Y.O. Aro-Lambo.

Police Officer, Sgt. Samuel Mishozunnu alleged that Mustapha committed the offense between May and June 2017 while working for Addosser Microfinance Bank Plc, located at 32 Lewis Street, Lagos Island.

The court heard that the defendant had taken the one million dollars in two installments of N840,000 and N160,000 from the bank's customer, but refused to hand it over to the bank and then fled.

Mishozunnu said: "The accused was arrested last Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the time of his marriage, after the police received information that he was getting married.

"The police waited for him to exchange his wedding vows after which he was arrested."

According to the prosecutor, the offense violated section 287 (7) of the Lagos State Penal Law, 2015.

Mustapha pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Counsel for the defendant, MMA Rufai, asked for his release on bail "in the most liberal conditions".

Magistrate Aro-Lambo confirmed his prayer and granted Mr Mustapha a deposit of $ 200,000, with two identical guarantees.

He adjourned until September 11 for the trial.
