Abia man kills Kinsman over N800 electricity bill

Police officers in Abia State arrested a man named Jude Okebuagwu on Tuesday for killing a 56-year-old man identified as Chibuzor Ogbunma at the expense of the N800 electricity bill.

The incident occurred in the suspect's hometown in Umuoko village in the northern region of Ntigha-Umukalu-Isiala-Ngwa local government in Abia State.

It was learned that Okebuagwu refused to pay his energy bill which led to the disconnection of his line.

Angered by the disconnection of his power line, the suspect allegedly attacked the deceased and allegedly used Enugu's power company's belt with an iron head to strike the deceased on his shoulder.

A statement issued by Abia State Police Commissioner Anthony Ogbizi confirmed the incident.

The police chief stated that the deceased was the president of his village and a member of his community electricity working group.

He added that the deceased had died as a result of injuries sustained as a result of an assault on him by the suspect.

Ogbizi said the suspect confessed to the crime and would soon be charged.

"The victim died of an injury sustained after an assault on him, the suspect confessed to the crime and will soon be charged in court," he said.
