Villagers Kill Nearly 300 Crocodiles After One Killed A Man In Indonesia

Indonesian villagers armed with knives, hammers and clubs slaughtered 292 crocodiles to avenge the death of a man killed by a reptile on a farm.

Photographs showed bloody carcasses of crocodiles in a large pile in Sorong District, in the Indonesian province of West Papua.

Local resident Sugito, who worked at a tofu factory in Sorong, West Papua, was looking for grass to feed his cattle on Saturday when he was bitten by a crocodile.

His cries alerted a local resident who heard him scream for help, but he was found dead, another local, Olga, reported.

After the local villagers attended his funeral on Saturday, about 600 armed themselves with sharp instruments and descended on a crocodile farm, owned by Albert Siahaan, to avenge his death.

The bloody attack made 292 babies and larger crocodiles, up to two meters long, pulled from their water-filled enclosures and hacked to death with hoes, picks and other sharp tools.

Up to 40 officers attempted to stop the massacre, but were outnumbered by the angry mob.
