Two catholic priests assaulted by masquerades in Enugu

Two Catholic priests were reportedly attacked and wounded by masquerades at Ogbodu-Aba, in the Udenu local government area of ​​Enugu State.

Rev. Fr. Peter Chikwado Udaya, who is the pastor of St. Patrick Parish in Ibenda, and the RP. Daniel Tochukwu Akubue, the parish priest of Ada-Obollo parish of St. Mary's, returned to their parishes after a brief visit to St. Charles Eha-Ndiagu parish. They were with the diocesan liturgical assistant when they were accosted by masquerades at Ogbodu-Aba on Thursday, July 12, 2018.

The masquerades blocked their way and harassed them and when the priests asked what the problem was, they were whipped and slapped for a long period of time.

A crowd gathered while the blows took place but they did not help, on the contrary, they cheered the masquerade and the young people who accompanied them. According to reports, the two priests were eventually rescued by Mr. Stephen Eze and his wife, who would later have been ostracized by members of the community.

The attack left father Chikwado Udaya with a lot of injuries and affected his sight. Since the ugly incident, he could not see with one of his eyes. He has already undergone eye surgery but the situation is still bad. Akubue Daniel was also seriously injured.
