State Assembly Speaker impeached

The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Peter Azi, and House Majority Leader Henry Yunkwap were indicted.


Azi of the All Progressive Congress (APC), represents the constituency of Jos North West and Yunkwap of the same party represents the constituency of Shendam.

Joshua Madaki of APC representing Jos East constituency was elected new president while Na'anlong Daniel of the same party representing Mikang constituency is the new leader of the majority.

The members of the Chamber indicted the duo after passing a motion of no confidence against them.

Peter Gyendeng of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) representing the Barkin Ladi constituency and approved by more than two-thirds of the deputies proposed a motion to remove them.

The state assembly has 24 members with the APC being the majority and rumors of dismissal have been heard since last week but the deputies denied such but the plan was concluded on Tuesday and the duo was dismissed in session plenary on Wednesday.
