Kemi Adeosun Applied For Exemption Certificate - NYSC Breaks Silence

The leadership of Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Monday was embroiled in controversy over the authenticity of the exemption certificate presented by Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun.

In a three-paragraph statement issued Monday by its press and public relations director, Adenike Adeyemi, the program said the available documents indicate that Ms. Adeosun did apply for a certificate of exemption.

However, she did not disclose whether the Minister had received a Certificate of Exemption in response to her request.

The statement reads as follows: "Our attention has been drawn to the question of the alleged falsification of a NYSC exemption certificate by the Honorable Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun.

"By checking our records, Ms. Adeosun applied for an exemption certificate.

"We will investigate the origin of the so-called exemption certificate in question."

The laconic statement follows public outrage over reports from an online news portal, Premium Times, which explains how Adeosun ignored the mandatory national service and used a fake certificate to cover it.
