Indian politician charged with raping a 16-year-old girl

A politician from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party has been accused of raping a 16-year-old girl.

The Central Investigation Bureau accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar of violating the 16-year-old girl in 2017, whose father was killed after being beaten by Sengar's brother.

The Bangermau legislator is already in prison for allegedly raping the teenager in June 2017.

According to local media, the complainant organization accused Sengar of raping her at home in 2017 when she went to pick him up for a job. In April, she tried to kill herself in front of Prime Minister Adityanath's house, alleging that the police had not responded to her complaint when she had approached them several months earlier.

The CBI then arrested Sengar on 13 April.

On Wednesday, Sengar and his partner Sashi Singh were charged with criminal conspiracy and other offenses under the Indian Penal Code, and rape of minors under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act.

The investigating body alleged that the complainant was raped at Sengar on 4 June 2017, and between 11 June 2017 and 20 June 2017 by other defendants.

Kuldeep's brother Atul Sengar and four other people were also charged in connection with the death of the complainant's father on 9 April. The father, who was then in judicial detention, died after fighting with Atul Singh Sengar.
