Five dead as boat capsized in Lagos state
At least five people were confirmed dead after a boat capsized in the Ikorodu region of Lagos State.
It was gathered that the boat owned by a company, Blue Sea, capsized in the middle of the sea while traveling to Ikorodu from Lagos Island.
Report stated that the dead bodies of the victims, four men and one woman, had been deposited at the morgue of the Ikorodu General Hospital.
The director general of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Adesina Tiamiyu confirmed the incident.
He said: "The agency received the distress call at around 5:57 pm and when it arrived at the scene, it was observed that a 20 seat boat belonging to Blue Seacapsized in the middle of the sea en route Ikorodu since the island of Lagos
"Unfortunately, five people - four adult females and one adult male - were confirmed dead and their bodies were dropped off at the Ikorodu General Hospital Mortuary, five people, including four women and one man, were saved alive. .
"The exercise was carried out thanks to the joint efforts of LASEMA, LASWA, LASAMBUS and SEHMU.The number of other victims saved can not be determined because they were brought to the jetty with other boats of passage."
He added that recovery efforts were still ongoing.
