Fake Female Doctor Thrown Into Prison In Abeokuta

A magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State, ordered the detention of Ms Mercy Duru in prison.

The woman was arrested yesterday on three counts of attempted murder, impersonating a doctor and obtaining false pretenses.

She will remain in prison until the next adjournment date of October 5, 2018.

The charge bearing the reference number MA / 512c / 2018 reads as follows: "Madam Mercy Duru, between the 23rd of June 2018 and the 1st of July 2018, at around 5 pm, in the Oluwo area, Adigbe, Abeokuta, in the Abeokuta Magisterial, tried to illegally kill a Mr. Olawale Hassan by injecting him with drugs Rocephine and Zoladex, which you claim to be able to cure heart disease, which almost cost him his life and thus commit a crime contrary and punishable under Article 320 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, Nigeria, 2006.

"That you, Mrs. Mercy Duru, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magistral District, did so with the intention of defrauding a Mr. Olawale Hassan, falsely presenting you as a doctor, working at the Federal Medical Center , Abeokuta and so committed an offense to the contrary and punishable under Section 484 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, Nigeria 2006.

"That you, Mrs. Mercy Duru, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned Magistral District, made by false pretense and intent to defraud, obtained the sum of # 400,000 from a Mr. Olawale Hassan under the pretext that you would use the money to buy medicine for him, that you have neither bought nor refunded the money and committed an offense to the contrary and punishable under Article 419 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, Nigeria 2006 ".

After reading the accusations, which she claimed to understand, her plea was not made.

The Presiding Judge of the Court 1, A. I. Adelaja (Ms), ordered that she be remanded in custody, while the case was adjourned until 5 October 2018.
