Dropout Law Student Arrested For Fraud

Destiny Otubambo, a 27-year-old university delinquent, was arrested by police in Lagos for alleged theft and false pretenses, reports TheNation.

Otubambo, police said, got a phone from a reseller at Ikota Shopping Complex Lekki, Ajah, on May 24, generating a false banking alert.

The suspect claimed to present himself as a lawyer, allegedly asked for phones worth N $ 377,500 and chose to pay by mobile transfer.

Paradox of the suspect yesterday in Ikeja, police commissioner Imohimi Edgal said: "To prove that he had paid, he showed a debit alert from Zenith Account number 2110746005, titled Destiny Ayo Adeleke.

"Believing it was true, the store owner gave her the phones and asked for her phone number, but when she did not see the alert, she tried the phone number but was inaccessible and the account number was nonexistent.

According to Edgal, a case was reported and FSARS detectives arrested Marian Amuche, the suspect's lover, through whom Otubambo was also arrested.

He said: "During an interrogation, he confessed to the crime and that he had sold the phones to buyers he had met online." He stated that three mobile phones, 10 sim cards and a wig had been found.

Otubambo said he generated false alerts by editing original alerts, adding that there was a moment when he tried to generate fake N5.3 million but failed.

He said, "I was studying law before leaving school because of financial problems.

"My dad is late. I bought the market lawyer dress for N35,000. I never went to court until I was called to the bar. There was no motive behind the buying the dress.I just bought and upload photos I took it in social media. "
