22-year-old Dancer Loses Her Legs After Boat Explodes In Bahamas

A 22-year-old dancer lost both her legs after a boat exploded in the Bahamas, leaving a woman dead.

Stefanie Schaffer was also reported to have suffered serious internal injuries during the explosion on a tour boat.

Several others were injured in the incident shortly after 9 am Saturday, and a woman, whose identity was not revealed, was killed.

Stefanie, an American from Rutland, Vermont, was on vacation with her mother, stepfather and sister.

A family member told DailyMail.com, "She's really very critical right now and in a really serious form, and I know she has really bad internal injuries.
She is in a coma and remains unstable to be repatriated home.

His mother, Stacey, reportedly broke one leg and suffered fractures, while her sister Stacey and stepfather Paul Bender escaped with minor injuries.

Twelve people were aboard the ship at the time of the explosion of the island of Exuma - 10 Americans and two of the Bahamas.

The parent added, "The scary thing is Stefanie does not know she lost her legs, and that's really bothering me.

"She will wake up from this coma and realize" I have no legs. "It breaks my heart.

Stefanie's family launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her hospital bills and those of her mother.
Four injured tourists were transported to Florida for immediate treatment, and the family hopes Stefanie will follow soon.

Dramatic images show flames leaping from the boat and thick black smoke rising in the sky.

The incident is under investigation.
