Plateau state imposes Curfew As Fulani Herdsmen Kill 200 In 11 Villages in a Day

According to a Punch Metro report, some 200 people were allegedly killed in the Gashish and Ropp districts of Plateau State on Sunday, during an attack that took place in some 11 communities by suspected Fulani herders.

Subsequently, the Plateau State Government imposed a curfew from twilight until dawn in the local government areas of Riyom, Barkin Ladi and Jos South.

Although there were rumors that some soldiers might be missing, the Commander of the Special Military Task Force with the code name Operation Safe Haven, Major General Anthony Atolagbe said, "It is not true, no soldier died and no soldier has disappeared" .

The decision, according to the government, was to avoid a new collapse of law and order.

A brief statement issued on Sunday by the Secretary of the State Government, Rufus Bature, said that the movement was restricted from 6:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m., except for those who are in essential functions. "

It was said that the attack had been launched in Xland, Gindin Akwati, Ruku, Nghar, Kura Falls and Kakuruk, all in the district of Gashish. The communities were completely sacked by the attackers, according to reports.

Other areas affected by the attack included Rakok, Kok and Razat in the Ropp district.

The chairman, the Committee of Public Accounts and Petitions in the House of Representatives of Plateau State representing Barkin Ladi, Peter Gyendeng, in an interview with The PUNCH on Sunday, said the attack was "a declaration of war" for his district.

He claimed that "mercenaries" have been hired to go kill people in Barkin Ladi LGA.

Gyendeng said: "In fact, the casualty rate is hundreds, it is more than 100. In one place, it is above 51, in another, more than 32 and even in another area, it is the same.

"For now, based on what we have on land and in the corpses we have been receiving, there are probably more than 200 casualties."

"In total, around 11 villages were attacked and our people are there trying to determine the number of deaths, the casualty rate is over 200 and the count (of the corpses) is still going on.

"This is war, it's a declaration of war against my people." The war has been declared by Barkin Ladi LGA completely.

"There are mercenaries who have been hired to come and kill people in Barkin Ladi LGA.

"The killing began around 11:00 p.m. The last night (Saturday) until this (Sunday) morning, and the killing is still going on."

When we communicated with him, the spokesman of the Plateau State Police Command, Matthias Tyopev, an assistant superintendent of the police, confirmed the murders to our correspondent, saying that "11 bodies have been recovered and no arrests made." .

He identified the 11 corpses as those of Dalyop Vanode, Dom Danladi, Bururu Wade, Joju Rala, Titus Danladi, Bitrus Malat, Alu Matir, Noron on Monday, Cecilia Yohana, Dam Bulus and Ladi Danladi.
