Muslim Man commits suicide by throwing himself off the roof of the Grand Mosque in S.A

Saudi police said today that a man committed suicide by throwing himself from the roof of the Grand Mosque in the most sacred city of Mecca in Islam.

"A foreigner was thrown from the roof of the Great Mosque in Mecca" into the courtyard below ", which resulted in his instant death," the state news agency SPA said, quoting police.

The body was transported to the hospital, with an ongoing investigation "to determine the identity of the victim, what led to the act and how he was able to commit it despite the existence of a metal fence," said SPA.

Last year, a Saudi man tried to set himself on fire in front of the Kaaba, the square stone building in the center of the mosque compound, but was stopped by security forces. Each year, millions of Muslim pilgrims from all over the world travel to Mecca and Medina, the second holiest site of Islam, also in western Saudi Arabia.
